SUMMARY:Movers for Moms
DESCRIPTION:Mother’s Day is a special time where moms worldwide should feel loved and appreciated. For many women\, this may not be the case as this holiday may be overlooked due to finances\, personal struggles\, or living situations where they’re relying on the support of shelters or other organizations due to homelessness or domestic abuse. \nTo ensure moms in need receive the love and appreciation they deserve this Mother’s Day\, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Boise is hosting its annual Movers for Moms® campaign to provide essential care items to the Women’s & Children’s Alliance (WCA). The collection campaign runs March 1 – April 3. \nThis year\, the Boise moving company is teaming up with local community partners like\, Les Schwab and Fred Meyers\, to collect essential care items for the WCA. The community can drop off donations at Treasure Valley Les Schwab locations from March 1 – April 3.  \nWe are also partnering with Fred Meyer stores to host a one-day collection day\non April 3 from 10 AM – 7 PM at these locations:\nFred Meyer\, Five Mile\, 10751 W. Overland\, Rd \, Boise  \nFred Meyer\, Fairview\, 1850 E\, Fairview Avenue\, Meridian \nFred Meyer\, Glenwood\, 5425 W. The moms who seek refuge with us have been through so much\, and we are immensely grateful to Two Men and a Truck for affirming our promise that survivors will always be seen\, believed\, and cared for by their community.” Bea Black – CEO\, WCA \n  \nThis spring marks the ninth year Two Men And A Truck Boise has been running Movers for Moms and last year we collected 1\,898 donations. This year we hope to exceed that number and collect 3\,000 items for the WCA. \nMovers for Moms is TWO MEN AND A TRUCK’s annual giving campaign and started off as a statewide program in Michigan back in 2007\, in 2014 it became a national program for all U.S. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK locations. Last year we had our most successful campaign to date with more than 443\,000 donations between all the U.S. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK locations. This year\, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK’s goal is to help more moms in need across the country and collect 500\,000 items all together.  \nFor more information about Movers for Moms visit moversformoms.com or www.facebook.com/MoversforMoms.  \nABOUT TWO MEN AND A TRUCK\nHeadquartered in Michigan\, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK is a national\, full service franchised moving company with each franchise being independently owned and operated. SUMMARY:Denim Day
DESCRIPTION:Order Your Denim Day Kit Today!\nJoin us in solidarity with sexual assault survivors this Denim Day\, April 29th. Kits include denim ribbons\, informational posters and postcards\, stickers\, and WCA materials to share with your colleagues\, friends\, schoolmates\, and more! \nSince 1999\, Peace Over Violence has run an inspiring and powerful campaign to practice solidarity and support survivors by renewing our commitment to exposing harmful behaviors and attitudes surrounding sexual violence. Denim Day is recognized on the last Wednesday in April in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court to overturn a rape conviction because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove them\, thereby implying consent. Following the reversal\, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. \n \nSince then\, what started as a local protest to bring awareness to victim blaming and destructive myths that surround sexual violence has grown into a worldwide movement. \nAs the longest-running sexual violence prevention and education campaign in history\, Denim Day asks community members\, elected officials\, businesses and students\, and all individuals  to make a social statement with their fashion statement by wearing jeans on Denim Day as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that continue to surround sexual violence. \n

SUMMARY:Joyce Stein Memorial Award Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Honoring those who make a positive impact on the growth and advancement of women.\n \n  \n\nThe Joyce Stein Memorial Award is given in memory of Boisean Joyce Ann Stein\, a long-time supporter of the WCA (YWCA). Each year an individual who has made a positive impact on the growth and advancement of women is honored. \nBack in 1973\, Joyce Stein participated in a new women’s group that began as the result of a women’s conference held at Boise State College. The group wanted to continue discussions surrounding women’s issues and joined with the YWCA to open the Women’s Center in the basement of the YWCA. Joyce Stein\, as a founding member and the first director of the Women’s Center\, took on the issue of sexism in our community. As the group studied the prevalence of the issue\, they came to the conclusion that domestic violence was a prevalent problem—which led to the YWCA’s involvement in the prevention of domestic violence. The elimination of sexism and domestic violence became the foundation for the organization’s work. After her untimely death in 1979\, the YWCA named its highest award in her memory and has awarded this special recognition every year since 1980. \nNominations are welcomed from individuals\, businesses and organizations. The nominee does not have to be distinguished by title or office\, but rather by his or her efforts on behalf of women.

SUMMARY:2026 SueB Memorial 5K
DESCRIPTION:Registration is Open for 2026!\nMore Info Here \nWho was SueB?\nA vivacious\, intelligent woman who is missed dearly every day. February 9\, 1955 – April 4\, 2008 \nSusan Elaine Brubaker Newby died in 2008 during a mysterious horseback riding incident. After her death\, family\, and friends realized that SueB – her nickname – was likely in an abusive marriage. SueB’s sister\, Marj\, and friends\, Leslie and Teresa turned to the WCA as a way to honor SueB’s life and increase awareness about domestic violence. Their hope: “to help other successful\, smart\, beautiful women like SueB leave these relationships before it’s too late.” \nAbout The Race:\nContinuing to honor the memory of Susan “Sue B” Newby\, The 17th Annual SueB 5K kicks off on Sunday\, October 4th at 12 pm at Julia Davis Park in Downtown Boise\, ID. Each participant will receive a free t-shirt*.  \nIn addition to the race\, there will be a community resource fair starting at 10:30 am that is open to the public. This is an opportunity to discover and learn about the fantastic resources that our community has to offer. Raising awareness and encouraging important discussions about domestic abuse has always been a passion of Sue’s family and friends. \nRace fees support our Endowment Fund to ensure the WCA can maintain our services and serve our clients for many years to come.  The object of this Endowment is to provide funds in perpetuity for the operation of all of the WCA’s programs to provide safety\, healing\, and freedom from domestic abuse and sexual assault. \nIn the heartfelt words of Sue’s sister Marj Sente: “Don’t wait until your sister\, daughter or mother is a victim of domestic abuse or sexual assault\, step forward now and make an investment in the WCA to raise awareness about domestic violence.”   \nThis is a great opportunity to celebrate positive relationships with your family\, friends\, and coworkers. Will you join us?
