The student organizers of the BSU Sexual Assault Awareness Month campaign culminated their efforts with a Safety, Healing and Freedom Chalk Art Festival that featured community artists who created pieces inspired by the mission of the WCA. They invited the Women’s and Children’s Alliance, as well as the Idaho Anti-Trafficking Coalition and the Idaho Coalition Against Sexual & Domestic Violence, to table and educate students and community members about the resources they offer.
Three prizes were given to the artwork chosen for the three following categories: People’s Choice Award, Artist’s Choice Award and WCA Choice Award. The art will remain on the sidewalk in the Boise State Quad (weather-permitting) allowing continued interactions with the pieces.
The student organizers displayed all the pledges they collected that corresponded with each week’s theme; students signed a hand to pledge to be an active bystander, a t-shirt to pledge to support survivors of sexual assault and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center’s “I Ask” for consent pledge. They also displayed the menstrual products that they collected throughout the month to benefit the clients at the WCA.
Thanks to these students for the important work they have done to raise awareness and have difficult conversations on campus during Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
