Tips for Mobile and Online Devices

Technology like mobile phones and other devices, the Internet, and social media are powerful tools for anyone experiencing domestic abuse. They can be essential resources to access help and information and crucial to providing a supportive network.

However, they can also be used by abusive partners to escalate abuse by accessing personal and financial information, monitoring activity, and interfering with the ability to access help and support.

Here are some things to remember:

  • Your computer and cell phone use can be monitored without you knowing it.
  • All internet usage can be monitored without your knowledge.
  • Your movements and location can be tracked by your social media posts.
  • Browser history can never be completely erased, even if you browse in “private” or “incognito” mode.

Are you concerned your internet use might be monitored? Call our 24-hour hotline at 208-343-7025 for information and resources. You can also schedule a confidential, personalized safety planning session with our court advocacy team by calling 208-343-3688 ext 0200.
