The WCA was grateful to be chosen as one of the beneficiary nonprofits of Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry’s, alongside Canine Companions for Independence. The WCA received over $500 in donations from the day to go to supporting our clients – wow!
WCA volunteers were hard at work to help bring Free Cone Day to the community. A total of nine WCA volunteers came out to scoop ice cream, take donations, and most importantly, to create a welcoming experience for all ice cream lovers. Thank you to all of our volunteers for taking time out of their busy days: Becky R., Stacy S., Brooke B., Kylee J., Sheryl S., Denise K., Ken P., Lisa M., and Allie C.
Asked why she was volunteering. WCA Ambassador Stacy S. replied: “I appreciate that the WCA brings awareness to domestic abuse; I like their mission of promoting healthy relationships. I think it’s really a fantastic organization and it’s my favorite nonprofit.” Another WCA volunteer, Ken P. consistently shouted out “Who can I help?” as customers filed in to get their ice cream. Those four words echoed throughout Ben and Jerry’s to reflect the ever-present attitudes of our volunteers who go above and beyond to give their hearts and their time. Ken even stayed past his designated volunteer time to help the scoopers of the other beneficiary, Canine Companions.
The WCA was thrilled to have Boise Police Department’s K-9 officer Scout and his handler Officer Nickerson at the event. Scout had several free ice cream cones himself, and even took a bite out of Officer Nickerson’s too!
Free Cone Day has been a tradition at Ben & Jerry’s since 1979, as a way to give back to and celebrate the community. Special thanks to Andrew Moran and Boise Ben & Jerry’s for letting the WCA be a part of it!
