GRANT SUPPORTS CHILDREN EXPOSED TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Gladys E. Langroise Advised Fund in the Idaho Community Foundation Awards Funds to Women’s and Children’s Alliance
Boise, ID – The Women’s and Children’s Alliance (WCA) has been awarded a grant of $5,000 from the Gladys E. Langroise Advised Fund in the Idaho Community Foundation. The funds will be used to support the childcare program, which is projected to serve more than 100 children that have been exposed to domestic and/or sexual violence.
Research indicates that millions of children in the U.S. are at risk of exposure to domestic violence each year. When there is intimate partner violence present in the home, the risk of abuse to the child increases significantly.
“Exposure to abuse both as a primary and/or secondary victim can have lasting physical, emotional and developmental impacts on a child – even into adulthood,” says Bev La Chance, WCA Deputy Director. “The WCA strives to provide tools for those impacted by the trauma of abuse and to break the cycle of generational violence.”
The WCA childcare served 116 children during the last fiscal year and 60 percent were under the age of five. The WCA’s childcare staff is specially trained to deal with children who have been exposed to trauma and they work closely with all program staff to identify the needs of the children.
In addition to childcare, the WCA offers safe shelter, counseling, case management, court advocacy, life skills classes, financial education and a variety of other integrated services and programs to women, men and children victimized by abuse.
