Dr. Beronica Salazar
Program Director

I am Dr. Beronica Salazar, the Program Director at the WCA. I am a licensed clinical professional counselor, a Nationally Certified Counselor, an Approved Clinical Supervisor from the Center for Credentialing and Education and a state of Idaho board approved supervisor. My clinical background in not-for-profit organizations has focused on providing services to diverse and underserved populations. Much of my clinical experience has included working with trauma survivors and high-risk clients (youth and adults) at risk of suicide. My sense of responsibility for desiring to improve treatment accessibility for all motivates me to build meaningful partnerships and develop new ways to support staff to improve service delivery. I received my bachelor’s degree from Boise State University and my master’s degree in marriage, couple and family from Northwest Nazarene University. I also received my Ph.D. in counselor education and counseling from Idaho State University.

Since my time at the WCA, one word has continually come to mind, gratitude. The work with community and shelter clients is filled with so many painful moments as we navigate complex situations with underlying hurt and distress. Many times we find ourselves feeling helpless that we cannot do more to alleviate the pain of families and individuals facing domestic abuse and sexual assault. Yet in the midst of everything, we also find delightful moments that fill our hearts in unimaginable ways. These treasured experiences come when hope shows up through a gentle smile, words of appreciation or stories of success shared by a child, youth, or an adult we serve. These moments are strikingly moving and leave anyone witnessing this shift with utter gratitude for being a part of that person’s life. I am filled with appreciation to be a part of their journeys.

There are many benefits that come from working at the WCA but none as touching as seeing client’s lives changing for the better. In a season of being thankful, I appreciate the opportunity to contribute in making a difference in the lives of survivors and their communities. I am encouraged with the possibilities and thankful to be a part of the WCA.
