As we talk about stress management this month, I have a confession: Writing this article every month stresses me out! I am not a good writer and an even worse typist. I was really struggling to come up with a relevant article this month, so I did something that, even though it is difficult for me, helps me relieve stress – I asked for help. Here are some great stress reducers that my co-workers suggest:

  • Take a hike. Or a walk. Or sit on a park bench. Just be in nature.
  • Make something: Bake, knit, scrapbook, color, build a boat in your basement.
  • Write in your journal.
  • Write a letter to your grandma.
  • Take a soothing bubble bath.
  • Cuddle with your kids, or dogs, or both.
  • Listen to a podcast.
  • Call the “complaint department.” Find a friend to whom you can vent for 5 minutes (and will keep you to 5 minutes) then enjoy an activity with them.
  • Laugh!
  • Recognize that we have choices.
  • Take a yoga class.
  • Read a novel or watch a movie where you know the good guys will win.
  • Go on a cleaning spree.
  • Work in your garden.
  • Learn it’s OK to say “No.”
  • Focus on an attitude of gratitude.

It’s the gratitude for all that our community does to support the WCA’s clients that helps the Philanthropy Team when we have stressful days at work. Thank you.
