Seeds of Hope Book Release Celebration

Members from the community gathered on the evening of February 21 at Rediscovered Books to celebrate the release of Seeds of Hope, annual report turned children’s book, written by the WCA’s own Communications Manager, Christine Davis. The book was illustrated by a former client, Laura Gray. They sold over 50 books on opening night.

The book is seen through the eyes of Jimmy, a fictional 8-year-old boy who escapes an abusive parent with his mother and baby brother, as he navigates the first few nights at the WCA’s safe shelter. Many details about how Jimmy navigates his stay are based off real experiences of hundreds of children that pass through our shelter every year. Both Christine and Laura have personal ties to the WCA, so they created the book together. Rediscovered Books Publishing printed over 250 books to start. The cost of a book is $15. $11 of that goes to the cost of production and the remainder goes straight to the Women’s and Children’s Alliance.

Rediscovered Books is part of an initiative which strives to get books in the hands of rural youth across Idaho. They hope that with a purchase of Seeds of Hope people will consider donating a book to a rural school as well. Children experiencing domestic violence often feel isolated, misunderstood and alone. This book in the hands of a child experiencing abuse will make them feel less alone and less of an outsider.
