Bonnie has been a dedicated core volunteer with the WCA for about a year. She spends time every week volunteering in the Shop, and has also helped out on our admin team at the front desk, as well as at many special events. Bonnie’s dedication to the WCA’s mission is reflected in her artisan necklaces that are available for purchase in The Shop. Proceeds from the sales help support our direct client services. Thanks Bonnie, for everything you do!
How did you get involved with the WCA?
I attended the WCA tour, “If these walls could talk” and was hooked!
What are your hopes for the future of the WCA?
My true hope for the future is that such a place is no longer needed, but I know that simply will not be the case. So I hope and pray fewer people need the services and that more people donate and volunteer for the WCA’s future.
What motivated you to volunteer?
I was looking for a volunteer opportunity similar to my years of volunteering at the Children’s Advocacy Center in Colorado Springs and found the WCA online. I felt that it would be a great match allowing me to give back to my community.
What keeps you coming back to the WCA and continuing to stay engaged?
I keep coming back to the WCA to volunteer because of all the wonderful people, be it employees, volunteers, clients as well as patrons of the thrift store who show their support in donating and/or spending their hard earned funds in support of the WCA which is such a worthy cause.
What words or advice do you have for clients who are seeking our services in this time?
You are in great caring hands, embrace the changes for all the good in your new life as it unfolds. Soak up the support like a sponge so your “well” will fill up, so you too, can “pay it forward” to someone else in need.
Why did you decide to make necklaces for the WCA?
I wanted to make something that “got the word out” about the WCA and at the same time raise funds for the WCA. I was driven to create a necklace with this in mind. What better way than to incorporate the WCA logo itself!
I could not have made this happen without the help of Jenn and the expertise in graphics of Chris Davis. A big thank you to them both! The necklaces are available in the WCA thrift shop for $25 each with $16 donated directly to the WCA and $9 to enable me to keep making more.
Where does your inspiration come from?
You could say my inspiration comes from a strong desire to contribute in a mode beyond volunteering.
