NAGEL FOUNDATION SUPPORTS SHELTER FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE VICTIMS
Boise, ID – The Women’s and Children’s Alliance (WCA) has been awarded a grant of $43,000 from the John F. Nagel Foundation to help the victim services safe shelter program for women and children fleeing domestic and/or sexual violence.

The $43,000 grant will be used to provide comprehensive services for women and children in the WCA’s safe domestic violence shelter program. These services include counseling and therapeutic services, case management, life skills, financial education and nurturing parenting classes, court advocacy and childcare.
The primary direction of the John F. Nagel Foundation is to support non-profits in Southwest Idaho dedicated to meeting great basic human needs, providing education, and youth programs.
“We are pleased to continue our support of the WCA and the important role they fill in our community to care for those with great and immediate needs,” said Curt Goldgrabe, Executive Director for the Nagel Foundation. “The WCA is special because it provides help and hope to people who might otherwise be devastated by these kinds of senseless acts of violence.”
In 2016, the WCA provided 9,216 safe bed nights to 152 women and children through the emergency shelter and transitional housing programs. This means they were able to sleep without fear – something most people take for granted.
“Domestic violence is one of the primary causes of homelessness for women and children, thus providing, and sustaining, available secure shelter is essential to those escaping the mayhem of violence. The Nagel Foundation’s strong partnership with the WCA has been instrumental in the agency’s ability to provide this critical direct victim service,” said Bev La Chance, WCA Deputy Director.
In addition to safe shelter, the WCA offers case management, counseling, court advocacy, education and a variety of other integrated services and programs to women, men and children victimized by abuse.

The Nagel Foundation was formed in 1989 in memory of John F. Nagel and his son Jack Nagel, former owner/operators of Nagel Beverage Company in Boise, Idaho. The Foundation has awarded over $18.4 million for charitable purposes in southwest Idaho since its inception in 1989.
