Boise, ID – The Allstate Foundation has awarded the Women’s and Children’s Alliance (WCA) a grant for $10,000 to support financial literacy education. Victims of domestic violence and sexual assault face many obstacles before they are truly free and financial abuse —the most pervasive—occurs in up to 99 percent of domestic violence cases.

“The Allstate Foundation is proud to partner with the Women’s and Children’s Alliance and help their efforts to support survivors of domestic violence,” said Frank Clouser, Allstate Corporate Relations Manager. “We are committed to using financial empowerment to end the cycle of violence because research shows that financial dependency is the strongest predictor of a survivor’s decision to remain, leave or return to an abusive relationship – even stronger than physical safety issues.”

The WCA’s financial education curriculum equips participants with the skills necessary to gain economic independence in a safety-centered setting. The curriculum contains information that teaches women about safety, empowerment, economic abuse and other financial concepts, such as budgeting, credit, banking and investing.

In the last fiscal year, the WCA held 12 financial education workshops for adults, 25 workshops for youth 38 two-day financial literacy certificate course sessions and 151 individual coaching sessions for individuals who have been impacted by the trauma of domestic and/or sexual abuse.

“Allstate Insurance is more than a company that does business in Idaho – it is part of the fabric that makes up our local community. Through the support of The Allstate Foundation, we are able to provide our clients with education that empowers them to achieve financial independence and economic self-determination. The Allstate Foundation is an important partner in meeting our mission of providing safety, healing and freedom to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault,” said Bev La Chance, Deputy Director for the Women’s and Children’s Alliance.
