As Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month drew to a close, the WCA’s annual PSA Contest awarded its winners for the sixth consecutive year. Every year, the Women’s and Children’s Alliance hosts a Public Service Announcement (PSA) Contest open to junior high and high school students across Idaho to raise awareness about teen dating violence. Students are invited to create digital posters or 29 second videos to highlight topics related to teen abuse.
Judges and staff were impressed with the high quality submissions, which provide information and resources about dating abuse and healthy relationships to teens and young adults. This year we had a record-breaking number of entries from students spanning from Caldwell to Idaho Falls. After submitting their designs and videos, guest judges who are professionals in their fields scored each individual submission. This year’s judges were Marco Vazquez of Intracon, Mike Kerby and Joan Cleary of c308 Marketing, and Anna Silver of 6 On Your Side on KIVI-TV. The winners are as follows:
1st Place High School: Lana Ballenot and Mackenzie Martinez, Boise High School
2nd Place High School: Thomas Rhodes and Chayton Aumier, Boise High School
1st Place Junior High: Jane Carney, North Junior High
1st Place Poster: Paige Busmann, Vision Charter School
2nd Place Poster: Baylie McCallister, Boise High School
On Friday, March 1st, the WCA held a reception and awards ceremony for the students who participated in the contest to celebrate their hard work and accomplishments. The screening was open to the public and well attended by participants, friends, and family. At the reception guests viewed all of entries from this contest, which can be found here, followed by an awards ceremony for the winners of the contest.
