October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month: Use Your Words
For some individuals in our community, this month may be the time they chose to leave an abusive relationship for good. However, this is a very difficult decision to make and for some – it takes multiple times leaving, to finally leave for good. This can be frustrating for those of us on the outside looking in. For those who care about people and don’t like seeing them mistreated, physically harmed and verbally abused; over and over again.
What can you do? Use your words. Support those you know and care about. Make sure they know that you are there for them and support them, no matter what. Offer resources, rides or a safe place to stay if needed. Let them know you care about them and support them and that you honor their choices, that you believe they deserve to be treated with respect and then show them that respect. Let them know they are not alone.
