Boise, ID – The Women’s and Children’s Alliance (WCA) has been awarded a grant of $52,000 from the John F. Nagel Foundation to help women and children fleeing domestic and/or sexual violence.

The funding will support the WCA’s emergency shelter and transitional home and provide critical program services to approximately 23 individuals—many of whom are accompanied by children. These services include counseling and therapeutic services, case management; life skills, financial education and nurturing parenting classes, court advocacy and childcare.

Domestic violence is one of the primary causes of homelessness for women and children. And, research indicates that the highest risk of physical danger is often during or following the separation.

“The support from the Nagel Foundation will afford individuals impacted by the trauma of domestic abuse and sexual assault the opportunity to participate in the agency’s vast direct victim-services program that is designed to encourage self-reliance, enhance self-regard and to promote independence and personal safety,” said Bev La Chance, WCA Deputy Director

During the last fiscal year, the WCA provided 11,132 safe bed nights to 182 women and children through the emergency shelter and transitional housing programs. This means they were able to sleep without fear – something most people take for granted.

The John F. Nagel Foundation supports nonprofit organizations in Southwest Idaho and has funded the work of the WCA for more than a decade.

In addition to safe shelter, the WCA offers case management, counseling, court advocacy, education and a variety of other integrated services and programs to women, men and children victimized by abuse.
