For this month’s staff spotlight, we would like to introduce Page Sellards, our new Crisis Case Manager!
Page has been with the WCA for about a month now acting as Crisis Case Manager. This newly-created position is one of the first points of contact for people requesting WCA services. Everyone who calls the hotline or comes to the WCA to request services speaks with Page. She completes assessments with the client to determine eligibility and availability of shelter, counseling, and case management. The client is told of the options that are available moving forward, and empowered to make their own decisions about what services best suit their needs.
This new Crisis Case Manager position means that, for the majority of the time, when people call the hotline they are going to be talking with Page. Page sees this as a benefit to clients as, “it gives a sense of predictability and accountability for our clients to know that they’re going to get the same answer every time.”
Page started with a degree in Early Childhood Development, then returned and got an additional degree in Family Studies and Psychology. After teaching preschool, Page decided she wanted to work with parents: “I felt like I could have a greater impact in that way, so I started doing home visits. We would visit with parents who were in crisis and talk about how parenting is going, child development, any concerns.”
It was during these home visits that Page witnessed the effects of domestic violence and sexual assault on families and became interested in the WCA’s mission. “I love seeing people grow—we’ll get to see clients go into the shelter, get housing, hear about how they’re feeling supported, the friends that they’re making—that’s really wonderful.”
The WCA is fortunate to have Page joining us in our mission to provide safety, healing, and freedom from domestic abuse and sexual assault.
