BANK OF AMERICA CHARITABLE FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANT TO SUPPORT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTER SERVICES

Boise, ID – The Women’s and Children’s Alliance (WCA) has been awarded a grant of $10,000 from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, Inc  – Boise Market President team to support the work of the WCA with victims fleeing domestic and sexual violence.

“The WCA is honored to partner with The Bank of America Charitable Foundation to help ensure safe and stable shelter is available to those here in our community who are escaping domestic and sexual violence,” said Bev La Chance, WCA Grants Director. “Calls to our hotline in April 2020 more than doubled from those in April of 2019 and we are seeing an uptick in emergency intakes to our shelter. This situation is very real and is affecting those in our community who were likely already in dangerous situations.”

“This grant represents the trust and value that we place in your organization and the excitement we feel about the work that you are doing to support basic needs for individuals and families and your response to COVID-19,” said Katherine Morgan, Senior Vice President and Spokane/Boise Market Manager for Bank of America.

“Bank of America is lending, investing, and giving in local communities like ours in order to advance local economies and create positive change, “ said Morgan. “Providing support to organizations like the Women’s and Children’s Alliance, which are providing critical services and programs, is just one of the ways we are helping improve the quality of life in the communities we serve. Bank of America is proud to be a supporter of the Women’s and  Children’s Alliance!”

In addition to emergency and transitional shelter services, the WCA offers counseling and support groups, case management, court advocacy, life skills classes, financial education and a variety of other integrated services and programs to women, men and children victimized by abuse.

During this global health crisis, we have modified the way we deliver some services, moving to telephonic and video conferencing solutions to help protect the health and safety of our staff and clients. However, we have continued to provide services. And, when the Ada County courthouse closed to the public during the stay-a-home order, we modified our court advocacy program to help clients applying for civil protection orders online and made adjustments so they could attend emergency and 14-day hearings by video and telephonically at the WCA with our staff alongside. The need for our services is critical and we have remained steadfast in our commitment to providing safety, healing and freedom to those impacted domestic and sexual violence.
