Volunteer Spotlight: Danielle

Taking Flight:  What do you do in your volunteer role at the WCA?

Danielle:  I am currently volunteering in the Court Advocacy program twice a week where I help clients with the process of obtaining a protection order. This involves giving a brief orientation about the protection order process and supporting clients in the courtroom.

TF: How long have you been a volunteer?

Danielle:  I began volunteering after my internship ended in January of 2013, so about a year.

TF:  What do you find most rewarding about your work at the WCA?

Danielle: In my current role as a Court Advocate volunteer, the most rewarding part for me is helping people who have undergone terrible situations obtain a sense of safety and security for themselves and their children. When I volunteer with the Christmas Sponsorship program, the most rewarding part is witnessing the abundance of gratitude from clients and the incredible generosity displayed by our community to help these mothers and fathers provide a Christmas for their children.

TF:  How have you changed or grown as a person through your work here?

Danielle: Where to begin! I have acquired so much valuable knowledge and experience throughout the past year at the WCA that has influenced many aspects of my life. My experience at the WCA has served as a driving force behind my desire to pursue a career in victim services and has shaped the research I conduct as a graduate student. It has opened my eyes to the variety of things I can do to make a difference and positively influence the lives of others. It is truly inspiring to work with such a wonderful group of people who are so passionate about helping to improve the lives of their clients.
