Board Spotlight: Dave Self

24-Hour Domestic Violence Hotline: 208.343.7025 24-hour Rape Crisis Hotline: 208.345.7273 (RAPE)

This month we would like to introduce you to our Board President, Dave Self! We are grateful for your service and dedication to the WCA and survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault.

One of the first words that come to mind after meeting with Dave is community. Our community here in the Treasure Valley is one of a kind. Dave credits our community with being kind, helpful and why the WCA can succeed in serving those who need our help. He hopes that the WCA can continue to be that beacon of hope for the community and that people feel good about supporting us. “When people need help the most, the WCA is there,” Dave says.

We all have a “why” for the work we do at the WCA, and for Dave, it is simple. Too many people in our lives and our community are impacted by domestic abuse and sexual assault; It is a strong motivator for the work he does with the WCA. “It is such a powerful opportunity to make a difference”, he says. Dave’s goals and ambitions for the WCA are to continue to evolve to meet the needs of our growing community and create a solid program that helps break the cycle of abuse.

After talking about what he would like to see for the future of the WCA and how important our community is, Dave and I talked about his love for live music, his vinyl collection and traveling. His love of music became apparent when we started our virtual meeting and his background was The Rolling Stones. Dave expressed how he was very excited to see live performances and travel to fun places with friends and family again.

I asked him one last important question: What advice would you give someone interested in engaging with their community? He said, “Never underestimate the power of your passion.” His love for his work and the WCA is clear. He is passionate and proud about the work we do at the WCA for our community. Dave, thank you for your hard work and commitment to the WCA.

Dave currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of St. Luke’s Health System based in Boise, Idaho. Previously he was Chief Administrative Officer of St. Luke’s Health Partners, a wholly-owned subsidiary of St. Luke’s Health System. Prior to joining St. Luke’s in October 2014, Dave was Senior Vice President and Regional Director of Idaho for PacificSource Health Plans. Self joined Oregon-based PacificSource in August 2009 when the company acquired Primary Health Inc., where he was President and Chief Operating Officer. Self has an extensive background in the healthcare and employee benefits field, including 12 years with Regence Blue Shield of Idaho/Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield of Utah, where he eventually served as vice president of sales and marketing for both states. He also has experience working with technology companies to develop healthcare practices and key partner relationships with companies including Microsoft, Accenture, Deloitte Consulting and IBM Global Services. Self was appointed as an original member of the State of Idaho Health Insurance Exchange (Your Health Idaho) board of directors, is a past president of the Idaho Association of Health Plans and has served on numerous public and private health care industry committees. He is currently a board member, and past chairman, of the Boise Valley Economic Partnership, a member of the Boise State University College of Health Sciences Board of Ambassadors, and the boards of directors of the WCA (formerly Women and Children’s Alliance) and Treasure Valley Family YMCA. Dave pursued a business administration degree at Lewis Clark State College and earned the industry designation of Registered Health Underwriter (RHU) from Northeastern University.
