The click of a new pen, the crinkling cracks of the unopened pages of a new notebook. Tissue boxes, backpacks, new markers… it must be that time of year again… back to school! Back to school
has always been one of my most favorite times of the year. There is something so satisfying about doing all the shopping and getting ready for that first day. This year was quite different as I had the privilege to coordinate the 2021WCA Back to School program.
For some individuals, back to school can be a daunting experience — time, money and availability are all factors that can make back-to-school shopping more stressful than fun. The WCA Back-to-School program allows current clients with kids enrolled in kindergarten through 12th grade to be anonymously sponsored by members in our community to receive school supplies, school clothes, shoes, a coat and have certain school fees paid for.
Our sponsors this year included a wide range of businesses, families, and individuals who were able to assist 35 families and a total of 83 kids. These kids received items they needed for school. In addition, following specific guidelines and protocols to keep safety at the forefront of what we do, we were able to have volunteers back on-site to assist with the program (see Volunteer Voice for more info). Our wonderful WCA volunteers were able to assist with donor drop-offs, client pickups and organizing tasks in between.
Thank you to all of the individuals who helped make this year’s program successful!
