WHAT??? Back to school already?
While it seems we are in the midst of an endless summer, our Volunteer Coordinator has already spent weeks organizing our Back to School program. This unique program helps support our clients and their school-age children as they get ready to begin a new school year. While there is so much uncertainty already in everyone’s life due to the Coronavirus, you can only imagine how that compounds concerns for those whose lives are already upside-down thanks to dealing with the effects of trauma and abuse. Potentially, children in our programs face starting the new year at a new school and have to make new friends – the last thing they need is to worry about having all the materials they need to begin a new school year ready to learn.
WCA’s Back to School program was developed years ago to help take care of that worry for children and families in our program. Thanks to our incredibly generous community, we make sure that our kids have what they need, including school supplies and backpacks, new clothes, and, when required, funds to pay activity and sports fees which are often a burden for many families.
This year, 83 children from 35 different families are supported by individuals and companies who love participating in this program. For some, this has become a family tradition and a way for them to engage their school-age children in learning that buying basic school supplies is a hardship for many.
Want to help?
Gift cards are a great way to help families with additional supplies, costs, or clothing after the school year beings.
Please consider $25 gift cards to Walmart or Fred Meyer – this will also help with gas and groceries for our families during the school year!
On behalf of our kids – thank you for helping our kids feel supported and well prepared.
