COMMUNITY LEADERS PROCLAIM OCTOBER DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH ACROSS THE TREASURE VALLEY

Raising Awareness, Providing Resources and Honoring First Responders

Nationally, October is recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), providing communities an opportunity to educate and engage their citizens and help people learn more about domestic violence and how we can work together to break the cycle of abuse as individuals.

WHAT:            Domestic Violence Awareness Month Press Conference and Kick-Off Event

WHO:                Bea Black, CEO, Women’s and Children’s Alliance

Matt Clifford, Ada County Sheriff

Chelsea Larsen, For You Network and KYMFest (in Honor of Kymberlee Larsen)

Shawn Rayne, Chief, Ada County Paramedics

Pam Thomas, Mission Strategy Partner, Trinity Health

Various elected officials, law enforcement and community leaders from Ada and Canyon Counties

WHEN:            Friday, October 1, 2021, 10 a.m.

WHERE:        Idaho Peace Officers’ Memorial, 700 S Stratford Dr., Meridian, ID 83642. The event will be live-streamed on Facebook: https://fb.me/e/4xzETwieN and YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0Na6vVOjJg8HKzcuyqJ9Mw

WHY:              Many in our community are experiencing the trauma of domestic abuse. Last year, the WCA experienced a 57% increase in the total number of calls to our 24-hour hotlines and an 84% increase in the number of calls related to domestic abuse. We are coming together with first responders, elected officials and other agencies from across the valley to share information about victim services and recognize first responders’ critical role in our communities.
