MAXIMUS FOUNDATION GRANT FUNDS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTER
Boise, ID – The Women’s and Children’s Alliance (WCA) has been awarded a grant of $2,500 from the MAXIMUS Foundation to support safe shelter operations for women and children fleeing domestic and/or sexual violence.
“The availability of safe shelter is often the determining factor in whether an individual flees the abusive relationship,” said Bev La Chance, Deputy Director for the WCA. “Leaving a domestic violence home/relationship can be a dangerous process. Statistics reveal that up to 3/4 of domestic violence assaults reported to law enforcement agencies are inflicted after separation of the couples and 75% of women who are killed as the result of a violent relationship are killed while trying to leave.”
In addition to safe shelter, the WCA offers counseling services, case management, court advocacy, life skills classes, financial education, and a variety of other integrated services and programs to women, men and children victimized by abuse.
“Making a deep and meaningful impact on a community is no easy feat, but the Women’s and Children’s Alliance continues to do it every day,” said John Boyer, MAXIMUS Foundation Chairman. “It is an honor to present the WCA with this MAXIMUS Foundation grant that will support the continuation of their valuable work in improving health, augmenting child and family development, and promoting community development. The Foundation and I look forward to seeing the WCA’s growth and know that they will continue to improve individuals’ and families’ lives in the future.”
