Gratitude and the Holidays

October was a big month for the WCA. Not only was it Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), which provides us with many vital outreach opportunities to talk about the work we do, but also our annual Healing Begins with Hope outreach and fundraising event took place. This event provides one of the only opportunities to hear from one of our courageous survivors about their journey towards a life free from abuse. Thank you to everyone who was able to tune in and watch live at one of our three watch parties. The event was a great success and helped us raise vital funds to maintain and grow all of our programs. If you were not able to register and would like to view our program, please reach out to [email protected] and we will help you get set up.

As we move into the holiday season, we have lots of opportunities to get involved and support the WCA. First, our Giving Tree program, in partnership with Downtown Boise Association, will be back again this year. Beginning on Friday, November 26, you will be able to head down to the tree in the Boise Plaza and collect one of over 3,000 tags that will directly support our shelter and community clients. We need everything from gift cards, to hairdryers, to bedding. Watch out for more information in the coming weeks on social media and through email about this program. Tuesday, November 30 marks Giving Tuesday, a global initiative to embrace generosity around the world. We will be sharing information about Giving Tuesday through our social media channels, focusing on the ways, such as completing volunteer projects or sharing our resources, you can give time to support our services. There are countless ways to support our mission of safety, healing and freedom from domestic abuse and sexual assault.

December marks the start of a busy month of supporting our clients through our holiday sponsorship program. Community and shelter clients who currently access our services can apply to be sponsored by generous community members and companies to make sure that our clients have a wonderful holiday season. If you would like to get involved by sponsoring a family, you can reach out to [email protected]. We will provide more information in the coming weeks about this great program!

Finally, we will once again be participating in the Avenues for Hope Campaign which is an Idaho-wide initiative to ensure every Idahoan has access to safe, stable and affordable housing. The campaign runs from December 9 through December 31, 2021. During the campaign, we will share information about our safe shelters, which are often invaluable in a survivor’s journey towards freedom. More information come!

However you choose to get involved and support the WCA this holiday season, we are incredibly grateful.
