CREATE COMMON GOOD AND ST. LUKE’S TEAM UP TO PROVIDE FOR KIDS IN CHILDCARE AT THE WOMEN’S AND CHILDREN’S ALLIANCE
Boise, ID – Create Common Good (CCG) and St. Luke’s Health System teamed up recently to provide healthy snacks for the children in childcare at the Women’s and Children’s Alliance (WCA) licensed child care at the secure domestic violence shelter, Serena’s House, and the drop-in childcare at the WCA’s downtown location.
Each week, CCG will provide the makings for 125 nutritious and delicious snacks – freeing up hours of valuable staff time and allowing the childcare specialists to do what they do best, focus on the children; most of whom are coping with the impact of abuse in their homes. The weekly deliveries are filled with foods kids love: everything from apples and avocados to whole wheat bagels and graham crackers to frozen blueberries and yogurt.
Made possible with the support of a Community Health Improvement Fund grant from St. Luke’s, this pilot program is a wonde
rful example of how many community partners continually seek out opportunities to collaborate and provide the best support for those in need in our community.
“We are always looking for new and creative ways to partner with those in our community to provide the highest and most comprehensive level of services to our clients. This nutritious snack program is one such example. We are very appreciative of our great relationships with our friends at Create Common Good and St. Luke’s,” said Bev La Chance, WCA deputy director.
In 2014, the WCA provided 9,583 “safe bed nights” to 176 women and children. This means they were able to sleep without fear – something most people take for granted
