April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). The mission of SAAM is to increase public understanding of sexual assault and educate communities on how to prevent it. We know that a single month isn’t enough to address the significant and widespread problem of sexual assault. However, April holds space for the attention, prevention efforts, and survivor support we hope to strengthen and expand throughout the year.
How can you participate in Sexual Assault Awareness Month 2024?
- Participate in Denim Day on April 24
- Wear a teal ribbon
- Share resources with your community members in person or on social media to raise awareness
- Listen and believe survivors
- Follow the WCA on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with pertinent statistics, events, and other information.
Building Connected Communities
Racism, sexism, classism, heterosexism, ageism, ableism, and other forms of oppression contribute to higher rates of sexual harassment, assault, and abuse. We must strive to create communities that are safe, equitable, and inclusive. Building Connected Communities helps us reduce the likelihood of sexual abuse, assault, and harassment in our communities. Join us in creating strong, connected communities that take care of one another and make decisions to ensure the safety and well-being of others to end sexual violence.
Sexual violence impacts survivors, their loved ones, our communities, and society as a whole. We recognize how we speak about sexual violence shapes our world and that our voices have power. As such, it is up to all of us to prevent this type of violence before it occurs.
