The spotlight this month is on Charisse Patterson. Charisse manages The Shop, the WCA’s Thrift Store Boutique. Her job consists of processing, sorting, and pricing donations and getting them on the sales floor or listed for sale online. Charisse additionally works to create community partnerships with other nonprofits, and seek opportunities to bring attention to The Shop and generate revenue for the WCA.
In addition to generating revenue for the WCA, The Shop provides direct support for WCA clients. When clients come in with vouchers, Charisse and her staff are happy to help them pick out what they need, whether that is clothing, household items, personal care items, or anything else. Charisse also manages furniture donations, so that clients can have furniture in their new homes after they leave the WCA shelter.
At the WCA, Charisse is especially grateful for the volunteers who give their time to help The Shop staff each and every day: “We have an extremely generous community, so our small team of four could not succeed without our volunteers’ help!”
Charisse has a passion for the nonprofit world. “I have a heart and passion for people,” she says, “so I have enjoyed the opportunity to serve people and the community in so many different ways throughout my working life.” One of Charisse’s favorite parts of her job at The Shop is making people smile: “Whether it be a client, customer, volunteer, or donor, a smile can go a long way in this world. The Shop is a place where we want people of all walks of life to feel welcomed, accepted, appreciated, and leave with a smile.”
Prior to joining the WCA team, Charisse worked for the Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council as the Retail Manager. Before that, she worked in Critical Care at St. Luke’s Boise for eight years.
Thanks for your hard work Charisse, we are happy to have you on board!
