The BeaLine (YouTube video)
Bea Black, Executive Director
It’s December — the end of the year and the end of a decade. During the holiday seasons, one question I’m often asked is if this time of year is when we have more people reaching out for our services. In fact, the opposite seems to be true. What we find is that more people are working to hold the family together through the holiday and we see a rise in services after the new year into the first quarter. So, I want to thank all those who help us to support our clients throughout the year.
Many people look to make life-changes in the New Year and this holds true with many of those who make the decision to reach out to the WCA for information, for services, and for some—they may be reaching for a lifeline. We are here when those individuals are ready. If you or someone you know needs help, call the WCA’s 24-Hour Domestic Violence Hotline at 208-343-7025.

Care for Our Youngest Clients
Emina Delić has worked at the WCA for 23 years—19 of those in a management role overseeing the victim service program childcare. Her team supports clients by offering childcare services both at the downtown office and at the shelter campus. The childcare at the shelter is fully-licensed; clients may be off-site while their children are in childcare. However, they must remain on-site when utilizing the unlicensed downtown childcare location. Clients of the WCA may have experienced chaotic, unpredictable households. The cycle of violence that perpetuates domestic abuse may create an environment in which the abused and their children are constantly in “survival mode.” According to Emina, “When you are in survival mode, with all of the trauma and the effects that trauma has on the brain, not having support may stop you from being able to move forward.”

Concert for Cause Raises Over $46,000
The WCA was fortunate to be the recipient of the more than $46,000 raised at this year’s Concert for Cause! The show featured X Ambassadors, who brought a lively crowd of fans to the Knitting Factory. Most of the money raised was through the generosity in the live and silent auctions. Thank you!
This could not have been a success without the sponsorship of 94.9 The River, support of the event sponsors, Lyle Pearson Land Rover and the Lifetime Store, associate sponsorship of Apple Plumbing and CHF Home Furnishings, and the Knitting Factory for hosting. Also, thank you to Hometown Animal Clinic, G & G Insulation, Greenwood’s Ski Haus and Vine Wine Shop and Lounge who helped make this happen.
We are so grateful for the support for our organization through this event, and we can’t wait to do it again next year!

New Basketball Court at Shelter Campus
WCA’s shelter campus gained a new way to serve clients and their children. Donations of $25,000 from Albertson’s and $10,000 from Together Treasure Valley supplied the funds for a basketball half-court. ”What an amazing contribution to our shelter campus,a space for families to gather outside together, enjoying the outdoors and each other – a place for children of all ages to play and their mothers to watch or even join in the fun,” says Bea Black.
On the morning of the ribbon cutting ceremony, John Colgrove, President of Albertsons Companies Intermountain Division, took the first shot on the new hoop. “Albertsons is proud to support the WCA and their mission to provide individuals and families with a safe environment in which to heal and the resources to advocate for themselves and their children to build better lives.”
This wonderful gift will allow our clients and their children another space to play and make lasting memories for years to come. Thank you to Albertson’s and Together Treasure Valley for making this a reality!

2019 WCA Year in Review
Limitless Opportunities
Each year our annual report is a labor of love. In addition to providing an update on our financial state and recognizing our donors, we strive to share the impact of the wrap-around services from the WCA.
Each and every day, our team is able to provide opportunities for our clients that many of them never dreamed they would have. As you read the stories included in this year’s report, we invite you to celebrate the individuals who have been brave enough to share their stories.
With support from our donors this past fiscal year, we have been able to provide opportunities for clients. Many times, survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault may not feel as though they are able to follow their dreams.

First “Holiday Sip & Stroll” is a Success!
Many thanks to the Downtown Boise Association and CellarPass for putting together a fantastic inaugural “Holiday Sip & Stroll” on December 5, which raised over $2,000 for the WCA!
During this sold-out event, participants sampled Idaho wines and craft beer, and enjoyed other special “First Thursday” offers.
“It only takes a single person to affect change in our community, and we are so very grateful to be the recipient of the generosity of so many.”-Bea Black

“Festival of Trees” Brings Joy to WCA!
We are so grateful to Idaho First Bank for donating 75 tickets to the Festival of Trees! Our clients were able to enjoy the festivities at Boise Centre which included decorative trees, LEGO and train displays, as well as many other holiday activities. Donations of holiday trees were also given to the WCA, which now light up our downtown office and both Serena’s House and Laura’s Home. These generous gifts have brought cheer to clients as well as staff, and we are thankful for the support!
