March Newsletter: Change Happens Here

The BeaLine (YouTube video)

Bea Black, CEO

March is a month of many changes. Amazing change happens here at the WCA. We are so fortunate to be apart of change for individuals when they feel that the time is right for them to leave. We put an emphasis on knowing how gender-based violence can severely impact individuals who are gender non-conforming, women and children, and individuals of different races. As you think about the work we do at the WCA, you can help us, especially this week, which is NoMore week, by sharing information to your networks that abuse and violence are unacceptable. Join us in raising your voices in making this NoMore week visible and making this unacceptable in our society.

If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, please call our 24-hour domestic abuse hotline: 208.343.7025

NoMore Week

Gender Based Violence

Erin Vlamis, Court Advocate Manager

Typically, when people hear the phrase “gender-based violence” they automatically assume that is exclusive to women and girls, however, that is simply not the case. Women’s Voices Book Club with Rediscovered Books

March 18th from 7-9 pm on ZOOM

March’s pick is Outlawed by Anna North.
While Westerns are not usually my genre of choice, this book absolutely was!! In a unique mix reminiscent of A Handmaid’s Tale meets True Grit, Outlawed was magnificent. North’s “bad guy” gang of barren women from all walks of life are brassy, brave, and general badasses. Reimagining a dystopian post-Flu Wild West and the Hole in the Wall gang as all-female, this story was an engaging and gritty page-turner.

Poster Print-outs Available

Another way we reach vulnerable people is through posters that can be displayed in public bathrooms. We recently heard from Albertson’s corporate offices that they have these posters displayed in their women’s and men’s restrooms to reach people who may need our services.

Click here for a link to print posters if you know of somewhere that could benefit!
