Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Maureen Wishkoski, Court Advocate Manager
Advocacy is a surprisingly complex endeavor. It requires intense empathy metered with strong boundaries. It needs mountain-top perspective underneath rolled-up sleeves for working on the ground level. It seeks a willingness to collaborate and to challenge; to be polite yet firm in asking for more and for better. Advocacy asks for humility, confidence, and both patience and impatience-so that we can be steadfast in taking action against injustice. Advocacy is about the here-and-now, while understanding that today’s work builds the future.

Finding Freedom: One Survivor’s Story Part 4
After leaving my abusive relationship, I wasn’t sure what was next or how I was supposed to be. Donor Spotlight: Ruschman Sand & Gravel
What a sand-tastic donation! Thank you so much to Ruschman Sand & Gravel for donating sand for our children’s sandbox at our shelter campus. Special thanks to the amazing group of volunteers who helped transport and unload the sand. We are thankful for your hard work and our kids will love it!
Since 1974, owner Maryln Ruschman has provided the Treasure Valley with sand, dirt, rocks and gravel. When the WCA contacted Maryln for a donation, she immediately said yes. Thanks to the dedication of some fabulous WCA volunteers, the sand was picked up and delivered within a week of arranging the donation.
