It’s DVAM: Why Do We Start Conversations?

Last week, we had the honor and privilege joining leaders from across the valley to proclaim October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In Boise, Eagle, Garden City, Kuna, Meridian and Star—the Mayors each made official proclamations declaring it officially DVAM for their cities and towns and the Ada County Commissioners signed an official proclamation for the county as well. Why? Because for survivors, it is crucial we stand together in support. For those in unhealthy and dangerous situations, it is absolutely critical they know we are here for them; that they know there is help, there is hope. From the elected officials in their communities to the law enforcement and first responders taking care of their neighborhoods and the service providers like the WCA, is more important now during these trying times to let our friends, family members and those we may soon meet to know that we are here for them.
