Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The BeaLine (YouTube video)

Bea Black, CEO

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In this month’s episode of the BeaLine, Bea talks about some more discrete types of domestic abuse. Isolating someone from their friends and family, threatening a pet and checking a partner’s phone is domestic abuse. If you or someone you know needs help, please call our 24-hour hotline at 208-343-7025.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). This year, the national DVAM campaign is #WeAreResilient which reminds survivors of their strength and resiliency. The purpose of DVAM is to spread awareness of the prevalence of domestic violence in the United States and to break the cycle of violence through education and awareness.

DVAM Press Conference

On October 1, community leaders, in partnership with the WCA, proclaimed October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month at the Peace Officers’ Memorial in Meridian. The event was live-streamed on Facebook and Youtube and can be watched here.

Compassion Project: What Can We Learn From the Petito Media Frenzy?

The mystery surrounding the life and death of Gabby Petito, a 22-year-old social media influencer, has captured the imagination of the country. Her death, while undoubtedly a tragedy, has highlighted the chasm between how the American media treats the disappearance of young white women and how they treat the disappearance of women of color, and Indigenous women in particular.

Poster Print-outs Available

Another way we reach vulnerable people is through posters that can be displayed in public bathrooms. We recently heard from Albertson’s corporate offices that they have these posters displayed in their women’s and men’s restrooms to reach people who may need our services.

Click here for a link to print posters if you know of somewhere that could benefit!
