WHITTENBERGER FOUNDATION SUPPORTS WCA CLIENTS
Funds to Support Counseling Program for Residential and Community Clients
Boise, Idaho – The Whittenberger Foundation awarded the Women’s and Children’s Alliance (WCA) a $4,000 grant to support counseling programs for adults and children impacted by domestic and sexual violence.
Counseling is where healing begins for most WCA clients. Whether it’s a weekly support group or individual counseling session, the WCA offers survivors access to master’s-level clinicians trained in offering various approaches that best help clients on the road to healing.
During the last fiscal year, WCA clinicians held 1,645 counseling sessions for adults and children, and an average of 91 adults and children were on a waitlist each month. With the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization has experienced a dramatic increase in requests for services through our 24-hour domestic abuse hotline and emergency intakes into our secure shelter.
Through support from the community, like the Whittenberger Foundation’s funding, we have been able to sustain operations and even shift some services when necessary, like our counseling, case management, and financial empowerment education to partially-virtual operations.
“We are so grateful for the support from the Whittenberger Foundation. This funding will help us provide critical services to some of our clients and help them begin the process of healing from the trauma of abuse. For some of our youngest clients, this is the beginning of breaking the generational cycle of domestic abuse for families,” said Bev La Chance, WCA Grants Director.
In addition to counseling, the WCA offers safe shelter, two 24-hotlines, counseling, support groups, court advocacy, education, licensed childcare, and a variety of other integrated services and programs to women, men, and children victimized by abuse.
