On Wednesday April 26th, 2017 the Treasure Valley made it clear what their feelings are. Our community does not want to live in a society where victim blaming and sexual violence are accepted. Denim Day 2017 was historic.According to Peace Over Violence, “With your support and participation, we engaged over 12 million individuals in all 50 states and 118 foreign countries to wear jeans with a purpose and commit to educating themselves and others about sexual violence.” For the first time, Denim Day was trending on twitter. People were paying attention all over the world, and our community proudly stood with them. We were contacted by hundreds of people for Denim Day materials, and have received numerous donations from people who went above and beyond, not only wearing jeans and sharing the story, but having fundraisers for the WCA.
Schools, from many in the Boise School District, to Bishop Kelly participated. Companies, from Micron to TSheets participated. The WCA was interviewed about Denim Day on Kiss FM, and KIVITV. With the Treasure Valley’s support we were able to support survivors, and send a clear message: sexual violence is never the victims fault. Thank you, thank you, thank you. We are so excited for Denim Day 2018.
