December at the WCA exemplifies everything kind, compassionate and giving in our community. It’s a privilege to witness so many people giving back in so many different ways.
Giving Tree tags are flying off the tree at the Grove! While we were hanging the first round of tags at the Grove before Thanksgiving, two gentlemen who work at a nearby business stopped to inquire what we were doing. Once they learned that the gifts from the giving tree help sustain our families in the months to come, they took a few tags and told their co-workers about our work and our clients’ needs. This is how they give back.
This week, the gifts are pouring in for the families who have been adopted by generous community members. Some of these donors include former clients who understand what it’s like to have nothing under the tree (if they even had a tree) for Christmas morning. Helping provide a happy Christmas for families on their journey to safety, healing and freedom is how they give back.
Eight to ten volunteers are coming in everyday this month to help receive and sort the donations our community gives to our clients. Seeing these volunteers puts a smile on donors’ faces and all of the staff. This is how they give back.
One of the more moving moments for me this week came when a gentleman stopped by with four kids’ bikes. These are not part of the family sponsorship or the Giving Tree. This generous man didn’t have a bike as a child and thinks every child should have one. This is how he gives back.
Thank you all for inspiring others (like me!) in our community to continue to give back.
