Drift_Sue_April_2017Volunteer Spotlight

This month we are spotlighting Sue E., who has been one of our valuable core volunteers for several years.

How did you find out about the WCA?

As a life-long Boise valley resident, I was aware of the WCA and been participated in work related organized projects benefiting WCA’s mission.

Back in the 1980’s, I volunteered in the evenings as the front desk receptionist for the YWCA!  So one could say I have a long history with this organization.

How long have you volunteered with the WCA?

Since December 2013 (3 ½ years). My first experience of WCA volunteering was helping with the Christmas project.  I now assist Diana Burrell and Emily Fascilla, Philanthropy; and assist Lisa Uhlmann, Corporate Pillars Manager.

Why do you volunteer with the WCA?

During my 3 ½ years as a WCA volunteer, my volunteer work, became volunteer time, I now consider it my privilege to volunteer right along-side the dedicated WCA employees. I want to be a contributor to help make our community a safe, respectful, supportive, and inclusive place for all to dream, live and thrive. It gives me great satisfaction, a sense of pride, and daily inspiration to be a WCA volunteer.

What have you gotten most out of being a WCA volunteer?

My volunteer experience with WCA has opened my eyes to our community’s growing needs for WCA services, to the continuing and innovative WCA outreach efforts and services provided to address these needs, and to the astounding community involvement that allows WCA to accomplish their goals. To hear success stories and witness positive outcomes of the many services WCA provides to clients, including children, fills my heart.

What words or advice do you have for clients who are seeking our services?

To be strong, to know there is hope and help for you and your children. To know that you are important and each and everyone of us have an integral part to be happy and contribute to the success of our community. And to reach out for the support and services of the WCA.

Thank you, Sue, for your years of support and enthusiasm!
