2024 Joyce Stein Award Celebration
HONORING THOSE WHO MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE GROWTH AND ADVANCEMENT OF WOMEN The Joyce Stein Memorial Award is given in memory of Boisean Joyce Ann Stein, a long-time […]
It is with an attitude of gratitude that I write this brief story. It fills me with happiness to share with you one moment in time that made a great impact for one new member of our community who was looking to break the cycle of violence in her life.
On a very cold, yet sunny Saturday morning in mid-October, the WCA’s Outreach Team headed down to the Capital City Public Market to set up our information table in the Saint Alphonsus/St. Luke’s Community Health Partners booth space. Saint Alphonsus had offered to share their turn in the booth space, and as it was in the middle of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I immediately replied with a YES!
Actually, I would have likely jumped at the opportunity ANY Saturday of ANY month as the Outreach Team is constantly seeking out opportunities to spread the WCA’s mission, raise awareness and share information about services with community members.
As a non-profit, we rely on our community partners and supporters to help us share information and we work diligently to blanket the Treasure Valley with resources like shoe cards with WCA hotlines and other important information. On the Monday morning after the market, I received the following message from the Outreach Coordinator in charge of the Saturday Market Crew:
“Tabling at the Capital City Market was a great opportunity for the WCA. As a volunteer and I were setting up the table in the morning, a women came up to us who told us that she was from New York, and that she had come to Boise in order to escape a bad situation at home.
Because we were right there and visible, I was able to tell her about WCA services and give her our materials, and start to connect her with Boise resources which she would not have otherwise known about. The Market was also a great way to continue to promote Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the community. We passed out many purple bracelets and awareness ribbons for people to wear throughout October.”
Thank you to our many community members and supporters who help us raise awareness and share information about the programs and services about the WCA. It just takes one person being in the right place at the right time to make a great change in someone’s life.
