On Monday, October 16, the WCA was excited to honor seven volunteers for their hard work, commitment, enthusiasm and dedication to our organization.
Honorees received a certificate, official volunteer badge, gift certificate to The Shop and WCA branded USB charger. Food was generously donated by Even Stevens and adult beverages were given to us by Jacksons’ Food Stores.
There are lots of reasons to be grateful in life. However, more remarkably is that when we have a problem we don’t ever realize that is also something to be grateful for. Problems in life are necessary for growth. Without them we are stagnant and unchanged. Having problems in life is a way of identifying that we need to step back and re-evaluate our current situations. By no means am I saying that verbal abuse or any other type of abuse is just a problem, and something to be grateful for. Abuse of any kind is definitely wrongful treatment and cruelty of another human being. Abuse should never be tolerated or allowed at any level.

“I should have done it years ago—so healing”
Upon starting here at the WCA, Diana provided to me a disclaimer that at least one tour attendee would want to share their story with me after each Walls tour. Sure enough, after my first tour, I had an exchange with a woman named Shelby. She confidentially informed me of her childhood that was occupied by survival tactics like hiding in the woods from her stepfather. Eventually, she and her mother and siblings spent time in a shelter.
These adorable, handmade infant/toddler dresses were dropped off by Laura S., who spent 150 hours making these 18 dresses for our young clients. Thank you so much, Laura, for your incredible donation and beautiful handiwork!

Downtown Boise Tree Lighting and Giving Tree Launch
Please join us and the Downtown Business Association at our annual tree lighting at the Boise Grove on November 24 from 5:30 – 7PM.
Boise Mayor Bieter lights up the Christmas tree on The Grove Plaza in downtown Boise, while families in attendance sing carols and join in the candle lighting ceremony. This is also the kick off of our annual Giving Tree program, in which gift tags are hung around the tree that list the WCA’s facility and child care needs. Community members can take tags from the tree and drop the items off at any Zion’s Bank location.
Can’t wait to see you there to ring in the holiday season!

Our financial education program is partnering with Girl Scouts of Silver Sage this year as part of their financial empowerment (K-12) program. Our goal is to provide financial education workshops and volunteer opportunities for Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors.
Overwhelming gratitude. Those are the words that have been in the forefront of my mind since our 13th Healing Begins with Hope Breakfast on October 31. The support the WCA received from this event is truly inspiring. Twenty-five new individuals and couples became members of our Hope Society! These passionate community members are multi-year donors who believe whole-heartedly in the work that we do.
It is with an attitude of gratitude that I write this brief story. It fills me with happiness to share with you one moment in time that made a great impact for one new member of our community who was looking to break the cycle of violence in her life.
