Finding Freedom: One Survivor’s Story Part 3
After I started therapy and talking through my experiences, I realized my support system was completely disconnected. Friends I had known for years were a distant memory, and my family had been pushed away. I had allowed my abuser to always be right about how my family spoke of our relationship being so wrong. The relationship between my mom and I was broken, and I was desperate for the bond we had five years before. Any person I did have a connection with was a shallow existence of a true friendship, because they were my abuser’s friends.

Donor Spotlight: Lanie
Lanie (right in the photo), inspired her sister Sam, and mom Sarah, to raise money to support WCA clients by making and selling beautiful headbands. Lanie, budding entrepreneur that she is, cleverly set up a booth at an eclipse watching party in Smith’s Ferry to raise even more funds (she made $110 in less than an hour!) Lanie and her family stopped by to drop off the donation and show us her handiwork. One staff member was so impressed, she bought one of Lanie’s headbands! We are so grateful to Lanie and her family for supporting our mission and helping spread awareness.

Volunteer Spotlight: Julie with Rolling Tomato!
Julie D’Agostino moved from California to Boise and started Rolling Tomato in April. Julie’s goal is to “make food waste history”. She spends her Saturdays going to Farmers’ Markets and collecting fresh produce that was not sold that afternoon. Once she collects the produce she rushes around the city dropping off the produce to local shelters and food programs, such as City Light and Life’s Kitchen.

The Big Le Boise
August 26th was an exciting day in Boise! The Boise Weekly held their annual epic block party to celebrate 26 years of business. With a selection of food trucks, great music, art and craft vendors, and beverages, there was plenty of entertainment to be had. Boise Weekly is one of our awesome Corporate Pillars, so part of the proceeds were generously given to support our mission. With the help of our amazing volunteers, we were able to raise more than $500 in raffle ticket sales, and more than $50 in face-painting tips. We are so thankful to Boise Weekly and our community for their support!
