Join us on September 7 for the 2018 Scentsy Rock-a-Thon as we celebrate what compassion accomplishes.
In May 2018, we celebrated the one-year anniversary of the opening of our beautiful new transitional shelter, Laura’s Home, for women and children who need a little more time after staying in our emergency shelter. Housed on our 5-acre shelter campus, Laura’s Home has two stories and capacity to house 14 families. However, for the past year we have only been using the first floor with a capacity of housing seven women and their children.
One of the reasons we have not started using the upstairs rooms is that our on-site licensed childcare is not able to accommodate any more children without more space and staff. Having access to the childcare and the specially trained staff is a critical component along the path for healing of families that seek out the WCA to help them break the cycle of generational domestic violence.
In July 2018, we received an astounding gift. The notification that we were to be the beneficiary of the fifth annual Scentsy Rock-a-thon taking place at Scentsy Commons on September 7, 2018. With owners Heidi and Orville Thompson committing to donating $250 per hour, per occupied chair, over a 12 hour period to support our children’s services– we are gratefully looking forward to expanding our transitional shelter capacity, allowing us to serve more women and children each year.
