“She found joy in being around those she loved, her friendships, her relationships.”  – Jerri, friend of Susan “SueB” Newby. The WCA’s annual SueB 5K/10K on October 7 is a much-loved event by many of our supporters, but how many actually know the story behind it?

Spencer-JenniferSusan “SueB” Newby was an animal lover, loyal friend and beloved sister and daughter. Sue cherished the time she spent working with her horses. According to her friend Jerri, “It was one of Sue’s dreams to live and work with horses…and she achieved it.”

However, in 2008, Sue mysteriously died in a tragic horse riding accident. Many of her family and friends suspected Sue was a victim of domestic violence. To honor Sue, her family and friends, with the support of the WCA and Ada County Paramedics, began the SueB event in 1999 in order to raise awareness of domestic violence and raise funds for the WCA Endowment.

Now on the 10th anniversary of Sue’s passing, help us be the voice for those who no longer can speak. Help us tell Sue’s story on October 7th and join us for the Annual SueB 5k/10k Walk/Run. To learn more and how to register, please click here.

“Don’t wait until your sister, daughter or mother is a victim of domestic abuse or sexual assault. Step forward now and make an investment in the WCA to raise awareness about domestic violence.” – Marj Sente, sister of SueB and co-founder of the SueB event.
