December 2013

I heard a phrase last week that I really like and that is very appropriate given this time of year:

“Life consists of learning to let go.”  As I think about letting this year go in order to move into the next year I am struck by how much has been accomplished.

2013 was a good year for the WCA!

At the top of the list would have to be the generosity of our community that made so many things possible:

  1. Updating of our main shelter (which needed it after ten years of use)
  2. A partnership with Idaho Human Rights Center which resulted in a special reading of the Diary of Anne Frank in the Morrison Center
  3. Partnerships with Usful Glassworks and Create Common Good for our Financial Literacy graduates
  4. The return of our stained glass butterfly – not once but twice within a month’s time
  5. Increased awareness during Domestic Violence awareness month thanks to 10 billboards donated for that purpose
  6. The first “Power of One” breakfast honoring the role of first responders
  7. Collaboration with employees of the  Ada County Paramedics Association which increased success of the SueB 5K walk/run
  8. Launch of a student contest to develop special PSA’s for use by the WCA
  9. Launch of a new website and blog

Most important of all, is the fact that through the generosity of our community, we were able to help many of our clients “let go”.  They were able to let go of the bad things they have been through, and by doing so open themselves up to the possibility of daring to dream and to hope.  Through the work of our dedicated and talented program staff, these dreams and hopes are supported by skills our clients have been able to develop during their time with us.

On behalf of our clients, and all the WCA staff that are privileged to be engaged in this work, THANK YOU.  You have made a difference in so many lives this year.

Wishing you and yours a peaceful and enjoyable holiday season surrounded by those you love.
