The BeaLine (YouTube video)
Bea Black, Executive Director
One of the things I’ve been wondering about is how we know what a healthy relationship looks like. We do our prevention work from this angle—teaching the aspects of a healthy relationship. But, we know that not everyone has healthy relationships modeled to them, and they may know nothing but unhealthy relationships.
We strive to provide hope for anyone who has been impacted by domestic abuse or sexual assault, regardless of gender. We know that men have unhealthy and abusive relationships as well, but may not feel their concerns or experiences will be taken seriously. The WCA’s 24 hour hotline is anonymous, and available for anyone who may need help.
Give us a call at (208) 343-7025.

WCA Awarded Grant from J.R. Simplot Company
The Women’s and Children’s Alliance (WCA) has been awarded a grant of $10,000 from the J.R. Simplot Company to support emergency and transitional shelter services and the critical wraparound programming for those residing within the shelters.
This grants’ funding will provide opportunities for safety, freedom and healing to women and children in our community, those who perhaps are some of the most vulnerable – individuals fleeing domestic abuse and sexual assault.
During the last fiscal year alone, the WCA provided 11,132 “safe bed nights”. “We are grateful for the ongoing support from the J.R. Simplot Company.,” said Bev La Chance, WCA Grant Director, “We are continuing to see increasing numbers of community members asking for help, with increasing numbers of emergency intakes into shelter – meaning the danger is high and it is real.”

Corporate Pillar Spotlight: Mai Thai and Zee’s Rooftop
During these challenging times, two of our long-time Corporate Pillars–Billy Pothikamjorn, owner of Mai Thai, and Chris Zahn, owner of Zee Christopher and Zee’s Rooftop–have been extremely generous towards our shelter clients.
Billy and Chris are good friends who share the value of helping those in need. Once a week, Billy and Chris donate fresh produce for our shelter clients and their children. This gift is all the more admirable as Billy and Chris both try to keep their own businesses safe and open in the midst of the COVID-19 regulations.
We encourage you to support these great businesses! Mai Thai (208-344-8424) and Zee Christopher (208-381-0034)
We are so grateful for their generosity and kindness towards our clients and appreciate their support of our mission.
As part of our ongoing need for gift cards, please consider donations from Mai Thai and Zee’s Rooftop for our clients and their families as well as Corporate Pillar, Albertsons, which our clients use for their groceries. All of these gift cards can be purchased online.

Virtual TWIN Awards 2020
TWIN 2020 is going virtual!
The TWIN luncheon (Tribute to Women and Industry) has been a highlight for the WCA since 1994, and we intend for this year to be no exception. TWIN honors women who have excelled in their fields and made significant contributions to industry in executive, managerial and professional roles. Together, with this year’s Honorary Event Chair – St. Luke’s – because of the ongoing increase in community spread of COVID-19, we decided to make this a totally virtual event.
We will be focusing our energy on making this year’s TWIN 2020 awards something unforgettable! The Luncheon will be shown virtually and free of charge from 12:00pm-1:30pm on Tuesday, September 1.

Poster Print-outs Available!
To reach the people who most need help from our services and programs, we have to be creative in the ways we get our mission and message to them.
You may be familiar with our shoe cards that were developed so that a person experiencing domestic abuse or sexual assault could have much of the vital information they need on a handout small enough to hide in their shoe if necessary.
Another way we reach vulnerable people is through posters that can be displayed in public bathrooms. We recently heard from Albertson’s corporate offices that they have these posters displayed in their women’s and men’s restrooms to reach people who may need our services.
Click here for a link to print posters if you know of somewhere that could benefit!
