Denim Day: April 26, 2017

Denim Day is a day-long awareness campaign that allows us to honor survivors of sexual assault and start conversations about the dangers of victim blaming.

Why denim? In the late 90’s an 18-year-old Italian girl was sexually assaulted by her 45-year-old male driving instructor. While he was initially convicted of the crime and sent to prison, the ruling was later overturned by the Italian Supreme Court because the justices felt that because the victim wore tight jeans, she must have helped remove them thereby making the act consensual. The following day the women of the Italian Parliament protested by wearing jeans to work.

Volunteer Appreciation Month

April is National Volunteer Month and we appreciate the more than 700 active volunteers that serve the Women’s and Children’s Alliance and our clients. When you encounter a volunteer in the Treasure Valley this month, please take a moment to thank them for their commitment and passion for our community. Whether you say it loud or say it simply, be sure to say something. And for those of you who volunteer your time, talent and treasure to the WCA and other organizations, THANK YOU!

Donor Spotlight: Dean

A special shout out to Dean who donated two full bags of stuffed animals for our clients. He wanted to make sure the children we serve have their own stuffed animal for comfort.

Tribute to Women and Industry (TWIN)2017

The 24th WCA TWIN Awards luncheon at the Boise Centre on April 4 was a marvelous celebration honoring 51 fabulous women. Over 750 guests gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of the 2017 TWIN Honorees and this year’s Joyce Stein Award recipient, Luci McDonald. President of the WCA Board of Directors Bill Bodnar congratulated the 2017 TWINs, sharing that this day “is a way to celebrate women who have had a positive impact on their professions and acknowledge the companies who have actively recognized, promoted and supported them.” The WCA congratulates these extraordinary women for making the world a better place.
