Philanthropy Files: The Importance of a Community Network

Building a strong community network has been at the heart of what we do. We are so grateful for all of our dedicated and loyal supporters, who have helped us get through the challenges of 2020. Importantly, despite the challenges we were still able to grow our community of supporters. In 2020 we had 111 new volunteers join our family. Volunteers enable us to achieve  our goals, continuing to provide operational support to a variety of our services that directly benefit our clients, from providing administrative support to facilitating our holiday sponsorship programs. We have also seen significant expansion in the number of new supporters that have chosen to give to us financially this past year. As our network grows, we hope to be able to expand our services and serve more people who need freedom from domestic abuse and sexual assault. The need for our services is far greater than we could have imagined at the start of 2020. We have seen an 84% increase in calls to our domestic abuse hotline compared with 2019. So many of our new community connections are introduced to the WCA by our established and loyal supporters. We are so grateful for this continued support.
