To put WCA Ambassadorship into one word I would say, connection. Through many one on one chats, coffees and phone calls, I have been completely in awe of the experiences, ideas, accomplishments and true care that our Ambassador team has to connect our community to our services at the WCA and truly amplify our mission towards safety, healing and freedom from domestic abuse and sexual assault. I can honestly say that I have learned so much and been fully inspired by our Ambassadors to do everything I can to connect people to the WCA. I am so honored and completely humbled by the phenomenal passions, talents, and deep care that our Ambassadors have for the WCA and our greater community. To you all, I give the utmost thanks and praise for choosing to be a part of this mission to end domestic abuse and sexual assault.

This is why I am very excited that it is Volunteer Appreciation Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month because I have a reason to celebrate and thank our Ambassadors as well as keep the good fight toward bringing awareness to our community. To bring light to you all I wanted to share a couple of Ambassador quotes to highlight your passions and reasons for serving at the WCA.

“After moving to Boise and being asked to a WCA event I realized how lucky I was to be here with my kids. There were no services such as the WCA where I was and while I knew things needed to change I did not fully see how bad the situation was until breaking away. After having this lightbulb moment during a tour and hearing about the circle of violence I realized that I wanted to help wherever I could to make sure people know about the WCA. I hope we can work to break the cycle and close the doors of the WCA but until then I want those I can reach to know there is help available to them.”

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to volunteer and help the WCA with their mission to provide safety, healing and freedom from domestic abuse and sexual assault. As a domestic abuse survivor, the work the WCA is doing in the Treasure Valley is near and dear to my heart. When I was leaving my abuser, I was fortunate to have a domestic abuse organization to help me get back up on my feet safely with mental health support. I was able to experience the power of an organization like the WCA personally, and am so happy to be able to give back here in Boise where I now live. This experience changed my life and I am excited to be a part of an organization that is helping survivors – I know the WCA is changing lives and I feel honored to serve in their mission. I am amazed by the many resources and programs the WCA offers to the community and am excited to continue providing the support the WCA team needs to help more people!”

“ My husband and I have donated monetarily to the WCA for over 10 years and have had a few opportunities to volunteer our time. Over the past few months, we have learned more about the organization and are excited to take steps toward being more involved. We both have a desire to support organizations that focus on women, children and families…keeping them safe, heal and giving them a path to succeed. One of our core values is to give back and we both would like to be able to use our time and talents to give back to the WCA.”

I also wanted to give a huge shoutout to our Ambassadors who have been putting together Party Packs for our shelter residents! In March they were able to provide treats, snacks, and decorations of all things green for St. Patrick’s Day to 21 adults and 17 children. The celebration was wonderful and accompanied by corned beef and cabbage dinner from a donor and Boise Center on the Grove. Many thanks and excited to see what the April Earth Day Party Pack will bring!
