April is Sexual Assault Awareness month and we are so honored to share this piece written by a local Boise therapist, Brian Peck, LCSW. So often sexual assault survivors are blamed for the assault, like questioning the clothing the survivor was wearing at the time of the assault, how much they drank, why they walked home alone at night, why they didn’t use the buddy system, why they didn’t fight back, or why they didn’t use roofie detecting nail polish to test their drink at the bar, etc. We want to remind all sexual assault survivors that it was “never your fault.” Sexual assault is the sole fault of the person who sexually assaults others. Period. As Brian states, “Trauma is not your fault. [full stop].” If you’re interested in learning more about Brian and his important work, please visit his website at www.RoomToThrive.com
