Introducing Emma Ramirez and Olivia Harris!
These two amazing ladies are some of the first faces you will see at our Washington Location. We are so happy to have you on board. Thank you for your deep passion and hard work!
What is your position at the WCA, and how long have you been in that position?
E: I am the Program Department Specialist and I have been with the WCA since mid-March 2021.
O: I am the Executive Administrative Assistant and have been at the WCA since November 2020.
What are the duties of that position?
E: The duties for this position vary and are still evolving as it is new. I am currently working full-time in the lobby so I assist lobby gals with admin responsibilities. One of my major focuses is ClientTrack. I am working to learn the ins and outs of ClientTrack and work to figure out how it can function best for our organization.
O: My responsibilities have a large range from all things lobby and clerical to literally anything my girl, Bea, needs. Primarily, I support Bea with board-related, donor-related, and organizational duties. I am also happy to dip my toes into the other departments and help wherever I can.
Where did you work previously?
E: Previous to working at the WCA I worked mainly in the entertainment industry in Southern California in positions like production manager, sound engineer, stage design and construction, and master electrician. I have also held positions in the food industry, most recently Idaho Pizza Company. I have my Bachelors in Business Management and Entrepreneurship from Boise State and Associates in Liberal Arts and Theatre Arts from Citrus College in California.
O: I am a graduate of art history and have worked in the nonprofit world since high school. I spent many years in college and beyond working for Africa Foundation (USA), based in Friday Harbor, WA. Then I helped kick off a Boise-local nonprofit, Idaho Children Are Primary.
What brought you to the WCA?
E: I am still somewhat new to Boise and did not know much about the WCA until recently, but I am so grateful to be here. When I started the job search at the beginning of this year I wanted to work for an organization that was doing good for the community. My counselor actually suggested I check out the WCA and after reading about the mission and vision of the WCA I was excited to apply.
O: Growing up in Boise, I always felt the presence of the WCA but only knew peripheral details. As I got older and was increasingly exposed to domestic and sexual abuse, assault, and violence, I became impassioned about the issue and felt a connection to the mission and work of the WCA. It is exciting for me to feel involved in an organization with such a rich history, that I’ve always been familiar with, and is doing such important work in our community.
What is most rewarding about this position?
E: I am so thankful I get to spend my time at work knowing that I am supporting an organization that is helping to change the world. First and foremost it is most rewarding to work with our clients and the WCA’s amazing staff and community supporters. I also really enjoy working through issues on ClientTrack and creating reports.
O: Besides how the above statement would naturally make this position rewarding for me, I am also so grateful to be surrounded by such an inspiring group of folks – that’s the staff, board, clients, and supporters. Every day I am humbled by each facet of this organization and the roles of everyone involved.
What do you look forward to as you continue in this position?
E: Because this position is new I am interested to see how it evolves and changes as time goes on. I am also excited to continue to get to know my fellow staff members!
O: Due to the grander state of the world and resulting shifts in perspectives and practices accompanied by organization-specific changes, I think it is a very exciting time to be at the WCA. The work continues, more than ever, and I look forward to being a part of it. I am grateful for the knowledge and experience that I gain in this workplace, and with such a variety of tasks, I am never bored – no two days are the same.
