April 12, 2013, Boise, ID –May 2, 2013, is “Idaho Gives Day” promoting the work of nonprofitorganizations throughout the state. In this spirit, the Women’s and Children’s Alliance (WCA) is partnering with the Idaho Human Rights Education Center (IHREC) to present “The World of Anne Frank: A Community Reading for Remembrance,” May 2, 2013, at 7 p.m. at the Morrison Center for Performing Arts.

This event commemorates the 10th anniversary of the Idaho Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial, the only one of its kind in the country and will in clude readings from Anne Frank’s diary and the play based on her diary called “And Then They Came for Me: Remembering the World of Anne Frank.”

The readings will be directed by Renee K. Vomocil,Director of Education at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival and will be presented by students from the Festival’s Apprentice Company. “The story of Anne Frank, and the words from her diary, provide us with both a face and a voice to the horrors of injustice and intolerance. [The readings] remind us that the denial of human rights and the loss of human dignity is the persecution of an individual person. Denial and loss that was repeated in the millions during the Holocaust.” said Dan Prinzing, Executive Director for IHREC. Both the WCA and the IHREC hope that this special celebration in honor of human rights will inspire our community as we work to create and main tain a community of caring, happy and healthy individuals free from violence and fear. As part of this effort, there will be a free morning performance for eighth grade students in the Boise School District, highlighting the dangers of intolerance, racism, anti-Semitism and discrimination.

The Women’s and Children’s Alliance, 720 W. Washington, provides safety, healing and freedom from domestic abuse and sexual assault. The WCA operates two 24-hour information lines, secure shelter and transitional housing and provides professional counseling, legal advocacy, licensed child care, financial literacy and life skills training, and case management services.
