24-Hour Domestic Abuse Hotline: 208.343.7025

EXIT

Volunteer Voice: July 2021

24-Hour Domestic Violence Hotline: 208.343.7025 24-hour Rape Crisis Hotline: 208.345.7273 (RAPE)

On July 4th, I sat at the top of a hill overlooking Boise and saw so many fireworks. I was amazed to see the night sky lit up with bursts of colors all over. I have to admit, I was also a bit nervous due to the heat and weather we have been having that those bursts of colors could potentially cause a detrimental fire in the valley. It didn’t, and I’m so thankful for that.

Seeing the bright lights, a deep level of happiness and excitement came over me. I thought about the resilience in our community especially within you, supporters of the WCA. You have been there even during a time when we couldn’t be physically together to show your support to the WCA and our clients. You shared our posts, our hotline number, donated needed items from our wishlist and in general helped in any way you could, even with the guidelines that were put in place. As we continue to open up to the community more each day, I am so excited to see what all the changes within each of you will bring forth to the WCA.

The theme for July is Independence, Empowerment and Resilience. The past year has been a whirlwind of mixed emotions, out-of-the-ordinary behavior changes and adapting to some kind of new normal that everyone had to go through. I found some kind of independence from the life I once knew to truly empower myself to be resilient to work in the field that I choose to be part of. We all had to adapt, change and grow. Our WCA volunteers show that same independence, empowerment and resilience. Without the support from individuals like you, it would have been so difficult to have the tenacity to continue our mission work to provide free services for our clients. Thank you for continuing to support and empower our organization, staff and clients through your kindness and community.

I hope that this month brings you a positive internal reflection of the amazing work that you choose to dedicate your time to. Your choice makes it so that so many individuals in our community can continue to prosper in their healing journey. Thank you!

With Gratitude,
Lupe

Discussions of being a superhero – You can be a superhero by being kind, helping someone in need, making someone’s day by simply saying have a great day with a smile. A great lesson and reminder that what you do can affect the world around you.
