Supporting the WCA Comes in Many Shapes and Sizes
Supporting The WCA comes in many shapes and sizes, and I wanted to spend some time this month talking about our amazing supporters who work closely with our Facilities Manager, Brandi, to help meet the needs of our buildings. Our community is very generous and we benefit from the kindness of some great local businesses and contractors who choose to support our mission of safety healing and freedom from domestic abuse and sexual assault through in-kind donations.
In-kind donations of physical items or services for which we have an immediate need. This past year we have been fortunate to be on the receiving end of some excellent contributions for our facilities. We’d like to thank some of our great partners this past year:
- W2W Commercial Flooring donated a roll of sheet vinyl to the WCA to replace flooring in resident restrooms at our transitional shelter, Laura’s Home.
- The Meridian Gutter Company came out recently to remove and replaced all the gutters at our shelter campus. They also installed a gutter guard at the front of our emergency shelter, Serena’s House, to help keep pine needles and leaves from filling up the rain gutters.
- Local contractor Simpson Painting generously worked with Sherwin Williams to donate over $2000 worth of paint to freshen up communal areas at our emergency shelter, Serena’s House.
- Clearwater Roofing provided a significant discount towards our roofing replacement expense, stating that they believe strongly in helping its community.
In-kind donations are an integral part of helping the WCA serve those who need us. Unfortunately, the need for our services continues to grow. In June of 2020, we received 172 domestic abuse-related calls; in June of 2021, we received 288. With the increased number of clients served comes an increased need for donations. Many of the individuals we serve will also receive items that complement the other services through our in-kind donors. These could be books recommended by their counselors or gas gift cards that help them get to and from crucial appointments.
Many in-kind wish list items may appear small, but they can significantly impact a survivor’s healing ability. There are many items currently on the wish list that we are in immediate need of, and this list is updated often. Every donation you make from this list goes directly to clients, helping them on their journey to safe healing and freedom from domestic abuse and sexual assault.
Occasionally we also have needs that are not listed on our wish list and maybe more suitable for a larger group to host a donation drive. If you are interested in hosting a donation drive for needed items, reach out here to get your group involved today!
Thank you again to all our in-kind community donors. We appreciate you and are grateful for your continued support!
